The European broadcasting Union (EBU), which organizes the song contest “Eurovision”, said that the decision of Kiev to deny entry into Ukraine to Russia’s representative Yulia Samoilova “inconsistent with the spirit of the competition”. This is stated in the official statement of the organization.
“We must respect the local laws of the host country, however, we are deeply disappointed by this decision, which we believe contradicts both the spirit of the Competition and the concept of inclusiveness that lies at the core of his values,” the statement said.
The organization also promised to “continue the dialogue” with the Ukrainian authorities to “ensure the participation of all the contestants in the 62nd Eurovision song contest in Kiev.”
The security service of Ukraine for three years was denied entry to the territory of the Russian participant of “Eurovision” Yulia Samoilova earlier on Wednesday, March 22.
This decision is due to the fact that in 2015, Samoilova acted at festival “the World of sports and the good” in the Crimea, where he arrived from Russia. According to Ukrainian legislation, the entry into the territory of the Crimea must be sanctioned by the Ukrainian authorities, as in the understanding of Kiev Peninsula is “temporarily occupied territory”.
The security service of Ukraine started the check-up before entering Yulia Samoilova to Ukraine the next day after “the First channel” announced the name of the contestants from Russia. She had to perform in Kiev song Flame Is Burning.
The Russian foreign Ministry the decision of Kiev called “inhuman” and “shocking”. “This is another outrageous, cynical and inhuman act of the Kiev authorities,” — said Deputy foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin.
