Montenegro saw in his accession to NATO threat to Russia

Montenegro is not considering joining military-political bloc of NATO as a hostile act against Russia — on the contrary, the former Yugoslav Republic is located to the friendship and cooperation with Moscow. On Friday, March 31, the correspondent said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Montenegro Srdjan Darmanovic at the summit of foreign Ministers of member countries of NATO in Brussels.

“We never considered our entrance into this block as the beginning of enmity with anyone. It’s just the national interests of Montenegro”, — said Darmanovic. The Minister noted that the two countries had friendly relations, they cooperate on various issues. Darmanovic also expressed hope that Russia realistic and calm about the accession of Montenegro to NATO.

19 may 2016 NATO countries signed a Protocol on accession of Montenegro to the Alliance, thereby giving it the status of observer at its meetings. A full member of NATO the country will become after the document is ratified by all 28 member countries of NATO.

Today the Protocol is ratified by 27 of the 28 member countries of the bloc, with the exception of Spain. One of the last countries to ratify the Protocol on the accession of Montenegro to NATO, was the United States Senate ratified the document on March 28, 2017. The membership voted 97 senators, against only two, one Senator abstained.

“I hope that soon, under this decision, sign the President is Donald trump, and after this agreement is ratified and the Spanish Parliament”, — said Darmanovic. According to him, the process of accession to the Alliance should be completed within two months. “The NATO summit in may, Montenegro is likely to come into NATO,” — said the Montenegrin Minister.
