The MICEX index, one of two main indices of the Moscow exchange, the calculation of which takes into account the ruble price of the shares of the 50 largest and dynamically developing Russian companies will change the name. As the press service of the exchange, in place of the MICEX index (MICEX Index), the calculation of which began in 1997, will be the index Mosberg (MOEX Russia Index).
“Changing the name of the main indicator Moscow exchange will boost the brand awareness of the group and the integrity of perception, not only of the Moscow exchange, but for the entire Russian financial market Russian and international professional investment community, private investors”, — stated in the message exchange.
In a press-service trading platform also noted that the change in the name of the second of the two major indexes foreign exchange RTS index, — not planned yet.
During the fourth quarter of 2017 it is planned to amend the method of calculation of indexes of the Moscow exchange and the exchange’s regulations, increasing liquidity requirements and the basis of calculation in General.
“These and other changes, which will be developed together with the market, designed to increase the usability of indexes of the Moscow exchange funds and managing companies in related financial products”, — explained in the message exchange.
The MICEX index began on 22 September 1997 with 100 points. The historic minimum value was recorded on 5 October 1998 (18,53), the absolute maximum is 3 January 2017 (2293,99 points).
The index is based on 50 shares of Russian companies representing the key sectors of the economy, including Gazprom, LUKOIL, Sberbank, NOVATEK, Rosneft, Magnit, etc.
