Peskov said about not unequivocal support for Assad Russia

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov in an interview with Associated Press said that Russia’s support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is not unconditional.

“Unconditional support is impossible in this world”, — said the press Secretary of the President, adding that “it is wrong to say that Moscow can convince Assad to do what Moscow wants”. “It is absolutely wrong,” — said Peskov.

He noted that Russia and Damascus, “mutual support”, but Assad and his army — “the only real power in Syria that can fight the terrorists on the ground”. Peskov said that Russia expects a full-fledged international investigation of the attack before the UN Security Council will take any resolution condemning a chemical attack. Thus Peskov, described the chemical attack in Idlib as “very tragic”. Make evaluation to investigate “is simply unfair from the point of view of international law,” remarked Sands.

Peskov also told about the expectations from the upcoming visit of US Secretary of state in the capital of Russia. “Perhaps the upcoming visit of us Secretary of state Tillerson somehow emphasize the attitude of the American side to escalation of tension in Syria.

Earlier, on 4 April, the town of Khan Shaykhun is controlled by the opposition, was fired munitions with chemical weapons. According to the Syrian monitoring centre for human rights, killing at least 72 people, including 20 children and 17 women. UNICEF stated that the poisoning killed 27 children, 564 people suffered from poisoning.

The “Syrian civil defense” (the organization known as the White helmets) stated that Khan shaykhun attacked by aircraft of the Syrian government forces. USA, UK and France take the same stance. April 5, these countries made to the UN Security Council a draft resolution on the alleged attack in Syria in which responsibility for the attack rests with the Assad regime.

Damascus has rejected accusations of chemical attack. The defense Ministry said that Russian aircraft in the attack on the city was not involved. Syrian air force has not used chemical weapons and attacked a military warehouse where “there were workshops for the manufacture of bombs, stuffed with toxic substances”, said the Ministry of defence. Dmitry Peskov in interview to the AP in response to the question, does Moscow have proof of such a statement, the defense Ministry said that Russia is the only country participating in the operation in Syria on a legitimate basis, and therefore has “more information about what is happening there.”

Russia has already submitted to the UN security Council its own draft resolution on the alleged chemical attack, suggesting not to assign blame before the results of the official investigation.
