Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree “On approving the annual national programme under the auspices of the Commission Ukraine — NATO in 2017”. This is stated in the message published on the official website of the President of Ukraine.
“The programme for 2017 is significantly updated and improved. A document prepared in accordance with the new procedure for development of annual national programs of Ukraine’s cooperation with NATO and assessment of their implementation, which was approved by the President of Ukraine of 7 December 2016”, — the press-service.
The program provides “further development of political dialogue between Ukraine and NATO and the strengthening of comprehensive practical cooperation with the Alliance. This will involve expertise, financial, logistical capabilities of the bloc and its member countries “to strengthen the defense capability of Ukraine and the possibility to resist Russian aggression”.
As follows from the text of the decree, the program includes measures for reforms in all important spheres of the functioning of the state: from the security sector and defence, and key socio-political and legal reforms, measures to combat corruption and decentralization.
The aim of these reforms is the approximation of Ukraine to NATO standards.
In addition, the signed document will contribute to the implementation of decisions taken at the meeting of the Commission Ukraine — NATO at the level of heads of state and government on 9 July, 2016 in Warsaw.
Then they talked about increasing support for Ukraine by implementing an integrated package of assistance to NATO for Ukraine, including projects in the framework of the relevant NATO trust funds.
