Turkey began a referendum on constitutional reform, Erdogan

Turkey began voting in a referendum on amendments to the Constitution proposed by the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to Reuters. In case of successful referendum the country will become a presidential Republic with extensive powers of the President.

Recent public opinion polls showed that supporters of the extension of the powers of the President in the lead by a small margin.

In the voting are entitled to attend about 55 million citizens of Turkey. The country has opened more than 167 thousand polling stations. In the East, voting began at 7:00 (same as GMT), the rest of the stations opened at 8:00 and closes at 17.00.
