Moscow. April 25. The volume of online sales of art objects in 2016 jumped 15% to $3.75 bn, the report said the company Hiscox. Thus, the share of online sales in the art market rose to 8.4% from 7.4% a year earlier.
The world’s largest auction houses – Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Heritage Auction – last year sold works of art worth $720 million through its online stores. Christie’s recorded a sales growth of 84%.
It is noted that collectors still are afraid to buy on the Internet items of special value – the amount the vast majority of transactions did not exceed $5 thousand.
According to experts, sales of paintings, sculptures and other works through the Internet shopping could reach $9.14 billion in four years.
