Moscow. May 4. INTERFAX.RU Icelandic Krona rose against the dollar and the Euro at the fastest rate among the currencies of all developed countries in the last 12 months, despite measures to limit its growth.
During this period the Krone rose against the Euro by 21% and the dollar – by 15%.
The appreciation of the Icelandic national currency promote active growth of the economy and the huge popularity North of the state among tourists, partly due to the success of the series “Game of thrones”, many scenes of which were shot in Iceland, writes Bloomberg.
In the fourth quarter of 2016 GDP of Iceland jumped by 11.3% in annual terms, after rising by 9.6% in the third quarter.
In 2016, the country with a population of just over 330 thousand people attended 1.8 million visitors – 40% more than in 2015, when growth was 30%.
In March, the Icelandic government abolished almost all restrictions on the movement of capital since the financial crisis of 2009. Then the Krone exchange rate fell sharply, but in a few days recovered and returned to growth.
