Kosachev discussed with U.S. congressmen the prospects of cooperation between the countries

Moscow. June 2. INTERFAX.RU Head of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs Konstantin Kosachev at a conference in Berlin discussed with U.S. congressmen the prospects of relations between Russia and the United States.

“The participants agreed to continue the exchange of ideas and proposals for strengthening Russian-us inter-parliamentary dialogue”, – said the press service of the Federation Council.

Kosachev took part in the international conference “relations between the United States and Russia: the challenges of politics in a new era”, organized in Berlin by the aspen Institute (USA).

As stated in the press service of the Federation Council, the annual conferences of this kind are part of the academic program of the Institute aimed at raising the qualifications of members of Congress in foreign policy.

“In his speech before the 14 congressmen, representing both the Republican and Democratic parties of the US, Kosachev explained the Russian assessment of the state of bilateral relations and prospects of cooperation between the two countries in the international sphere, emphasizing the critical importance of re-establishing regular dialogue between the parliamentarians of Russia and the USA”, – stated in a press release.

Russian Senator answered questions from the congressmen who were interested in such topics as strategic stability, arms control, nonproliferation compliance, counter terrorist threats, and the settlement of regional conflicts.

Last year a similar conference was held with equal participation of parliamentarians from the USA, Germany and Russia, but this time Kosachev was the only participant in the discussions of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
