“Rosatom” will study the possibility of building a nuclear power plant in Zambia


MOSCOW, June 19. /TASS/. Rosatom and the government of Zambia in the first day of the “ATOMEXPO 2017” have signed a number of contracts and agreements for the development of nuclear infrastructure in this country, the correspondent of TASS reported from the signing ceremony.

In particular, an agreement was signed on conducting a pre-feasibility study for construction of nuclear power plants in Zambia. In “Rosatom” have informed that this document represents the first phase of the project before making investment decision on construction.

In addition, a contract was signed for the provision of assessment and development of the nuclear infrastructure of the Republic a contract for pre-engineering surveys in Zambia company “Atomstroyexport” (part of “Rosatom), the agreement on the establishment of a centre for nuclear science and technology in Zambia.

Also in the framework of the forum signed a Memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes with Uganda, Sudan and Ethiopia.
