The President of Russia Vladimir Putin considers that the interests of the peoples of Russia and Ukraine fully coincide, and the position of the Ukrainian authorities is to divide the two countries. This statement was made by the Russian President on Saturday, July 8, at a press conference in Hamburg at the end of the G20 summit.
“The interests of the Russian and Ukrainian peoples, I am convinced, are the same. Not the same only maybe the interests of the present leadership of Ukraine and there’s some political circles of today’s Ukraine”, — said Putin.
The President stressed that both Nations are interested in cooperation and the development of their economies. However, according to Putin, the current Ukrainian authorities “are trying to ignore it”. “They have only one product, which they successfully trade, is the simplest. And yet they sell the policy of the separation of Russia and Ukraine, the Stripping of the two peoples and two States”, the President said (quoted by “Interfax”).
Putin also expressed hope that someday “this situation” will end. “We are interested in the fact that this situation ended as quickly as possible”, — he added.
The situation in Ukraine was one of the topics that was discussed at the meeting of Vladimir Putin and Donald trump, the previous day on the sidelines of the G20 summit. The leaders agreed to create a channel to use it to keep track of observance of the Minsk agreements.
