Operating profit in the IV quarter exceeded expectations, thanks to cloud services


Moscow. July 21. INTERFAX.RU – the world’s Largest software maker Microsoft said that its net profit and revenue in the fourth quarter of 2017 financial year, in particular due to the strong performance of the business in the field of cloud services.

As reported in a press release, the company net profit on US GAAP for the three months ended 30 June jumped more than double to $of 6.51 billion, or $0,83 per share, compared to $3.12 billion, or of $0.39 per share, for the same period last fiscal year.

Net earnings per share in the last quarter included a tax benefit of 23 cents a share in connection with the liquidation of the business to produce mobile phones.

Operating profit excluding non-recurring factors increased to $0,98 per share.

Quarterly revenue increased 13% to $from 23.31 billion excluding one-time factors, revenues climbed 9.1% to us $24.7 billion.

The consensus forecast of experts polled by Thomson Reuters had foreseen a profit at $0,71 per share on revenue of $24,27 billion (adjusted figures).

Revenue Cloud Intelligent (“smart cloud”), which includes cloud service Azure and the business to produce software for servers in April-June grew by 11% to USD 7.43 billion. Analysts on average had expected the increase to $7,32 billion of Azure soared almost doubled (+97%).

Unit Productivity and Business Processes, which, in particular, produces a package of Office applications, increased revenue by 21% to $8.4 billion in sales of Office 365 grew by 43%, the number of subscribers to 27 million people, the income Dynamics 365 (the service Microsoft for managing customer relationships and enterprise resource planning) – 74%.

Microsoft does not publish the absolute figures of revenue for Azure and Office 365.

Microsoft shares rose 3% in trading after the closing of the main session on Thursday. With the beginning of the year capitalization of the company jumped almost 20%, exceeding $570 billion.
