Serbian filmmaker and musician Emir Kusturica, who arrived in Crimea this morning, said he considers the Peninsula part of the Russian Federation. He said this to journalists who met him at the airport in Simferopol, reports TASS.
Kusturica arrived in the Crimea, to perform with his folk-rock band The No Smoking Orchestra in Yalta.
Answering the question about what he knows about the city, where it is necessary to give a concert, he said that he knows about him due to the Yalta peace agreement. “I know that in Yalta the weather is very good that there is a very good girl. Everything here is interesting to me because you are also a part of the Russian Federation”, — he added.
According to him, the concert he will give in the Crimea, is a combination of materials, which the band played over the last ten years, as well as new music from his latest film “the milky Way”.
In addition, the Serbian Director said that plans to explore the Peninsula in search of locations for possible filming. “I am very interested to see what can be done here,” said the musician.
In 2015, was canceled concert of Emir Kusturica in Kiev without explanation.
However, the Ministry of culture of Ukraine has recommended to make it “to prevent the risk of mass unrest during the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of repose of Prince Vladimir of Kiev Great.”
The name Kusturica, according to the newspaper Quest-France, were added to the list of banned in Ukraine because of “close ties” with Russia.
The Minister of culture of Ukraine Vyacheslav Kyrylenko said that the Ministry was studying a list of 500 names, which turned out to be actors, Directors and musicians from Russia and other countries that “support violations of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine”.
In March 2015, Kusturica made a statement in which he said that Russia should support the Russian population in Ukraine, comparing the situation in this country since Yugoslavia in 1990-ies. Then he promised to organize tour in support of the Russian-speaking population.
The President of Russia Vladimir Putin awarded Emir Kusturica with the order of Friendship November 4, 2016. The Serbian Director was awarded “for significant contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation between peoples, the preservation and promotion of Russian language and culture abroad”.
