Patrushev: the new generation of ISIS is the greatest threat to national security

BEIJING, July 28. /TASS/. Secretary of the Russian security Council Nikolai Patrushev called banned terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG), changed its strategy after the defeats in Syria, the source of the greatest threats to national security. He stated this on Friday at the ongoing Beijing meeting of high representatives of the BRICS countries, in charge of security matters.

“The greatest threat to national security comes from a new generation of terrorists, United under the banner of ISIL (formerly ISIS – approx. TASS),” he said.

“The successful actions of the government and international forces in Syria have led to a change in strategy of terrorists, forced them to find “replacement sites” in various parts of the world to intensify efforts to maintain a high level of financial security. This is achieved primarily through the diversification of sources of funds and channels of transfers”, – said Patrushev.

As noted by the Secretary of the security Council of the Russian Federation, after returning home, the fighters create the organized underground, in addition, there is an amalgamation of extremist groups with criminal structures.
