Zakharova: the law on education in Ukraine was a revelation for EU countries


MOSCOW, October 16. /TASS/. The Ukrainian law on education was an unexpected opening to EU countries, which contributed to Ukraine’s European integration. This was stated by the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in an interview to TV channel Ren TV.

Earlier between Ukraine and neighboring countries have differences related to the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the law “On education”, the rate of which is about studying in Ukraine languages of national minorities angered several countries, including Romania and Hungary. The document, in particular, specifies that the educational process can be built only in the state language and languages of national minorities, including Russian, will be taught only up to fifth grade, but in 2020 this will not be the norm, and education in Ukraine will be Ukrainian as a whole.

PACE the majority of votes a resolution which expressed concern with the new Ukrainian law on education. According to the PACE parliamentarians, the document violates the balance between the state language and languages of national minorities of Ukraine.
