Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan believes that Dagestan affect relations between the two countries


MAKHACHKALA, October 18. /TASS/. Dagestan has a strong influence on the formation of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, said Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin at the ceremony for beginning the construction of a bridge across the Samur river in the Dagestan section of the Russian-Azerbaijani border.

“In Russia there is no region that has provided such strong direct influence on the formation of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan,” the Ambassador said, adding that “this factor is becoming more significant and positive.”

Direct ties between Dagestan and Azerbaijan is “active Russian-Azerbaijani inter-state relations”, the Ambassador said.

According to him, further steps in the improvement of the border serve to build social and economic ties between Russia and Azerbaijan.

“The President… is the objective set to change the situation, when the Dagestan Republic in Russia was the end of a dead end, since it is bound. And now not a border, and the border development, a huge development,” – said at the ceremony, the acting head of Dagestan Vladimir Vasiliev.

According to the participants of the ceremony Minister of transport of Russia Maxim Sokolov, the bridge “opens up opportunities for further cooperation, trade and passenger comfort, efficient freight transport”.

As previously reported, on Wednesday began construction of a road bridge across the Samur river in the Dagestan section of the Russian-Azerbaijani border. The bridge is 325 meters, plans to complete by spring 2019. To monitor the construction will be Russia.
