Ryabkov: the events in Ukraine caused by internal reasons, not a “Russian decision”

MOSCOW, October 21. /TASS/. The events in Ukraine in 2014 due to the internal situation in the country, first of all, the incident a coup d’etat, and not by any decision Russia. This was stated by TASS on Saturday, Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov, commenting on the words of a former senior Deputy Secretary of state Wendy Sherman.

Sherman at the end of the discussion on the Iranian nuclear program during the Moscow nonproliferation conference, said that “Russia and the United States cooperated on Iran even in 2014, when Moscow took the well-known decision in the Ukraine”.

“I was very surprised by such a question from Wendy Sherman, it is well known that no “decision on Ukraine” we did not accept and could not accept – said in this regard, Ryabkov. – Everything that happened in 2014, has its own history”.

The diplomat noted that Russia has repeatedly drawn the attention of American colleagues, including Sherman, when she was Deputy Secretary of state that “the coup in Kiev, which was involved in the US and some other Western countries, has become the root cause of subsequent events”. “Under subsequent events mean the will of the residents of Crimea and Sevastopol, who for obvious reasons chose reunification with Russia, and not maintain the former status of the territory”, – he explained.

“They felt a significant threat from what is happening in Kiev – continued Ryabkov. And equally the coup in Kiev was the root cause of the tragic and difficult events that occurred later in the Donbass. Necessary again and again to explain it, although it would seem we have all the i’s were dotted”.
