MOSCOW, November 1. /TASS/. Senators have suggested a possible mirror response to the decision of Twitter to remove ads from accounts of the Russian mass media: to recommend to the companies of the Russian Federation to refrain from advertising in this social network. According to some estimates, it may turn out to Twitter in the loss of millions of dollars. A more severe response in case of further pressure on the mass media of the Russian Federation worked out by the Russian legislators.
However, she added that on Smolensk square ready to deal with this theme, if it will be of interest. “If you will request from the legislature, civil society, we are willing to make such a report, but, again, this is fundamental work,” – said Zakharov.
She also stated that the analysis of the current U.S. registered as foreign agents list shows the inconsistency of the inclusion of RT. “Analysis of the list of foreign agents shows that the members of his company, usually do not produce media content directly with the assistance of American journalists, as lobbying and distribution of materials sent from abroad”, – said Zakharov.
As an example, the representative of the Russian foreign Ministry led the Japanese broadcaster NHK, which has been listed on a voluntary basis in 2012, because its leaders felt that the U.S. justice Department can link the spread of Japanese programs with political activity in the interests of Tokyo. The same thing, she said, can be said about acting as registered as foreign agents of the Chinese Newspapers. “Unlike the companies mentioned above, RT produces original content and is precisely the journalists, the media in the full sense of the word. Therefore, to equate our channel with actual printers, either the repeaters or lobby organizations simply impossible,” – said Zakharov.
The chief editor of RT Margarita Simonyan reported earlier that US authorities demand from RT to recognize itself as a foreign agent.
Later, the company Twitter has decided to remove all advertising from the accounts of the RT and news Agency Sputnik.
Twitter explained that the decision to remove advertising from the pages of the TV channel and news Agency RT is based on the verification of messages about the 2016 elections in the United States and “the conclusions of the U.S. intelligence community that RT and Sputnik made attempts to intervene in elections on behalf of the Russian leadership.”
Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov expressed regret with the fact that the company becomes the victim of a deep prejudice against the Russian media, and actually created a precedent of unequal treatment of its customers.
