MOSCOW, November 14. /TASS/. Russian and Syrian engineers completed mine clearance of the city of Deir ez-Zor, destroying almost 45 thousand explosive objects.
This was announced on Tuesday, the head of the Center for conciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Sergei Kurylenko.
“Finished demining the city of Deir ez-Zor. Sappers International anti-mine centre of the Armed forces of the Russian Federation together with Syrian experts in the period working on mine Deir-ez-Zor checked 1 238 hectares of the city territory and surrounding districts, 246 km of roads, found and destroyed 44 783 explosive subject,” – said the General.
He also said that representatives of the Syrian government agreed to deploy in Deir ez-Zor operational group of the Higher national Committee of Syria. The group will deal with the restoration activities of local governments in the liberated from terrorists areas and create conditions for the return of civilians to their homes.
Additionally, Kurylenko has informed that in the near future almost 50 Russians will return to Russia from areas that were previously controlled by the militants of the terrorist organization “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in Russia). “To evacuate to Russia is preparing another batch of 46 of our compatriots, removed from areas previously controlled by the terrorist organization ISIL (formerly ISIS – approx. TASS),” he said, explaining that most of the evacuees were women and children, many of whom “deception came to Syria and Iraq.”
With the assistance of the Russian military to cease hostilities was joined by two Syrian settlement – El-Maplas in the province of Aleppo and Canon in the province of HOMS. The Syrian military announced the complete liberation of Deir ez-Zor from the militants on 3 November. The Russian sappers have started demining of the city on September 29. It was reported that Syria had deployed more than 170 servicemen of the International anti-mine center and 40 units of special and engineering equipment.
