Zakharova: the UN did not give a mandate for the deployment of U.S. Armed forces in Syria

MOSCOW, November 16. /TASS/. USA did not receive a UN mandate for the deployment of their armed forces in Syria. This was stated on Thursday by the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“We were surprised to hear the statement of the Minister of defence of the USA James Mattis in conversation with representatives of the American press on 13 November that the US Armed forces are in Syria “with the permission of the UN,” she said.

“I would like to remind the Security Council – the only body under the Charter of the United Nations, which is empowered to make decisions about using military force in the international community. But such sanctions this structure to the United States with regard to Syria were not given. In addition, the U.S. forces are there against the legitimate government of this country, in fact, acting as occupiers,” – said the diplomat.

According to the official representative the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, it seems that the USA intend “to withhold part of Syrian territory and to do so as long as you wish.” “The challenge, which again can be seen in the framework of this approach – the power to achieve the desired result of the settlement,” – said Zakharov.

“We are very concerned about an American attempt to settle in a strange house, while they clearly do not bring in this stranger’s house peace and quiet. We expect, as noted by the foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov that the US still develop a fair and legitimate stance on the issue of his presence in Syria,” she concluded.

13 Nov Mattis that the United Nations has allowed U.S. military personnel to enter Syria. The Minister noted that the military will not leave until the Geneva process to resolve the situation in Syria will not achieve results.
