Lavrov: US is afraid of fair competition in the energy sector, military and sports

MOSCOW, January 15. /TASS/. The actions of the American administration to demonstrate a fear of fair competition in a number of areas, including energy and sports. This was stated on Monday the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov on a press-conference on results of activities of Russian diplomacy in 2017.

“The actions of the administration [USA], I would say, there is a fear of fair competition in a number of fields,” he said. Among the areas the Minister mentioned energy, military-industrial complex, the situation with the media and pressure on the Russian athletes.

Speaking about the energy sector, Lavrov drew attention to gas supplies to Europe, which “instead of Russian gas is imposed on liquefied gas from the US, which is several times more expensive”, as well as resistance from Washington “Nord stream – 2” . “Openly they forced the Europeans to abandon the “Nord stream – 2″, although the supply of gas to the same Germany in two thousand kilometers shorter than through Ukraine, and 1.5-2 times cheaper,” – said the Russian foreign Minister.

“The military-industrial complex: the sanctions, which cover the Russian defense export companies which produce the right products for me without a doubt aim to prevent the strengthening of our positions to the detriment of the position of the United States, he continued. – The desire is understandable. But we must compete fairly”.

The restriction of competition from the US is present in the media, Lavrov said. “Whether it’s relevant to RT, Sputnik in the United States, in France, whether it be exile of journalists and the closure of our channels in Moldova, Ukraine, Latvia and several other countries, whether the recent initiative of the President of France about to introduce some rules to combat fake news, and to define “fake information” is only one side,” he said.

“And finally, if we take the sphere of sports, in connection with the upcoming Olympics and for the Russian athletes Yes, there are violations on the part of our athletes, but collective punishment and nobody in such cases, nobody has been charged. I see there is also a fear of fair competition”, – concluded Lavrov.
