Peskov urged not to make generalized conclusions about the oppression of human rights defenders in Chechnya


MOSCOW, January 17. /TASS/. Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov urged not to make generalized conclusions about the oppression of human rights defenders in Chechnya on the basis of the fact of detention of the head of “Memorial”.

“I don’t think you can draw such conclusions based on the known case of detention of drug famous head of “Memorial” in Chechnya. There is a consequence and, in fact, only a consequence competent to determine how justified these accusations, – said the representative of the Kremlin. – On this basis to draw any generalized conclusions do not consider it possible”.

Commenting on the fire, which occurred in the office of the human rights centre “memorial” in Ingushetia, Peskov stressed that “these are two different republics, two different subjects of the Russian Federation”.
