Peskov: Russia regrets that a number of countries ignores the excesses of terrorists in Eastern ghouta

MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. Russia will continue work on the implementation of the resolutions of the UN Security Council to end the fighting in Syria to provide humanitarian assistance to the population.

At the same time Moscow is disappointing to see the disregard some other countries of atrocities in Eastern ghouta.

“In General, is quite hard work, but certainly here it is a regrettable fact that in speaking of Eastern ghouta, somehow our counterparts ignore those atrocities and the situation that provoked the terrorists who are hiding there and are holding civilians as hostages”, – said the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.

He assured: “Russia will certainly continue to purposefully implement the agreed resolution adopted by the security Council [of the UN], and, of course, defending his position”.

In the opinion of the representative of the Kremlin, “in this case, there is the work of the Russian side on the resolution [UN security Council]”. He recalled the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin on humanitarian pauses in Eastern ghouta. Peskov said that the operation in the area is carried out in line with security Council resolutions, adding that the timing of humanitarian pauses must conform to this document. “Certainly, they [the terms] shall not contradict the conditions which have been agreed upon in the resolution”, – said Peskov.

The question is whether the probability that the duration of the humanitarian pause is extended, the press Secretary of the head of state replied: “It depends on how to behave like a terrorist group, it depends on whether they will be fire, will there be further provocation from their side, mainly from these factors.”

The UN security Council resolution and the order of Putin

The UN Security Council on Saturday adopted a resolution requiring the parties to the conflict in Syria to cease hostilities for at least 30 days to provide humanitarian assistance to the population. The document was supported by all 15 member States of the security Council, including Russia. According to the resolution, the truce would not apply to military operations against the group “Islamic state” (IG banned in Russia) and other terrorist organizations.

On Monday, the Russian defense Minister, army General Sergei Shoigu said that on behalf of the President in Eastern ghouta since February 27 administered daily humanitarian pause from 09:00 (10:00 GMT) to 14:00 (15:00 GMT) local time. In the village Vafidin the Syrian authorities with the support of the Center for conciliation of the warring parties of the Russian Federation in Syria prepared the conditions for the reception of the civilian population through a single humanitarian corridor that links Damascus with Eastern Ghouta.

However, while civilians can’t leave the suburbs in conjunction with mortar shelling of a humanitarian corridor, told reporters the head of the monitoring group areas of de-escalation №3 “East ghouta” General Viktor Pankov. Previously, the Agency SANA reported the shelling of a humanitarian corridor militants of the banned terrorist organization “dzhebhat an-Nusra”.
