Medvedev: Cabinet on the threshold of legislative discussion of raising the retirement age


MOSCOW, April 28. /TASS/. Consultations about raising the retirement age in Russia are more than one year, the Russian government stands on the threshold of discussion of this issue at the legislative level. This was stated by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in an interview in the program “Vesti on Saturday” on TV channel “Russia 1”.

Medvedev added that the current pension system is viable, but in the future it will have to adjust. “Yes, the system is viable. She, like any pension system is not perfect, we have monasterial. However, this system is transparent, the system works. Again, it’s not perfect, and it’s going to have to adjust,” said he.

Most importantly, the Prime Minister said that this system was supported with money, this task is a critical task for any government, and the Pension Fund to balance expenses and income.

“Despite all the troubles, despite the situation in the economy, despite a number of adverse factors, all pension obligations are saved, are fulfilled. There are difficulties, and these difficulties, I remember, was, for example, in a certain period, namely in 2016, we were forced to abandon one of indexing. However, later, in 2017, we paid 5 thousand roubles everyone, the indexing was lost. Currently indexing by all the obligations of the budget”, – said the Prime Minister.

Moreover, Medvedev said, this indexing is currently exceeds its rate of inflation. So, at the end of last year, inflation reached 2.5%, “and the indexing it has already carried out and carried out – is 3.7%”. The Prime Minister reminded that the message of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to the Federal Assembly stated that in the future all government institutions, including the Pension Fund, it is necessary to provide an advancing of growth rates of indexation of pensions above the rate of inflation.
