The new aircraft FA-2ДТС created to replace the An-2, will be called “Baikal”

New passenger aircraft FA-2ДТС that is created to replace the An-2 and is now preparing for serial production at the Ulan-Ude aviation plant (U-UAZ, enters into holding “Helicopters of Russia”) got the name “Baikal”. This was reported on Saturday to journalists by the head of Buryatia Alexey Tsydenov.

“We discussed the start of production of the new aircraft (FA-2ДТС – approx. TASKS), the working name of “Baikal” – self-born,” tsydenov said at the meeting, which was held in Ulan-Ude with the participation of RF Minister of transport Maxim Sokolov.

The head of the Ministry of transport reported that the project at the beginning of may it is planned to discuss in Moscow. “We discussed the issue on the use of aircraft in 2021 (in 2021 will start serial production of the FA-2ДТС – approx. TASS) here in Eastern Siberia, the far East. At the beginning of the month of may in the Ministry of transport held an interagency meeting on the matter, Alexei Tsydenov will represent the project”, – said Sokolov.

TVs-2ДТС, development FGUP Siberian research Institute of aviation (SibNIA). S. A. Chaplygin (Novosibirsk), will replace the An-2 aircraft, which was withdrawn from production in the USSR in 1971 (until 2002 also produced in Poland). The aircraft will be used to solve the problem of poor transport accessibility of the remote settlements of the regions of Russia, the decision of the state task on rendering of emergency medical aid to the population, performance of works on suppression of forest fires, agricultural work.

The first aircraft was demonstrated at the MAKS air show in 2017. In the framework of the Russian investment forum in Sochi this year, which took place 15-16 February, signed a five-party agreement between the Ministry of transport of Russia, Ministry of industry and trade, the government of Buryatia, the government of Yakutia and JSC “Helicopters of Russia”. The document provides for the organization of serial production of light aircraft FA-2ДТС for U-UAZ. The operator will perform a new Yakut airline “Polar airlines”: in early April the Ulan-Ude aircraft plant and “Polar airlines” have signed a long-term contract to supply 200 aircraft FA-2-DTS.
