MOSCOW, may 24. /TASS/. The increasing persecution of Kiev on journalists given the worsening situation in the Donbas may indicate a preparation for a large-scale military provocation. This opinion was expressed on Thursday the head of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs Konstantin Kosachev.
“The increasing persecution of alternative Pro-government media, coupled with a sharp aggravation of the situation on the confrontation line in Donbas may mean nothing like preparing a large-scale military provocation. When the President [of Ukraine Petro] Poroshenko emphasizes so strongly that, say, the American Javelin in any case “will not be used for the escalation of the conflict in the Donbass”, it is still more reinforces the opposite belief: something is prepared,” he wrote on the page in Facebook.
“Stripping” in the information sphere
According to Kosachev, there is a suitable context for this kind of military provocation: the upcoming football world Cup in Russia. “We all remember that provocation and in 2008 the Georgian President [Mikheil] Saakashvili was timed to the Olympic games in Beijing, and the escalation of events in Kiev that led to the coup, “summed up the” just in time for the Olympics in Sochi. In each case, the expectation is that Russia will not dare to intervene because of the inevitable loss of image in the role of “aggressor”, – he stressed.
“Therefore, the current Ukrainian “cleansing” in the information field watch with alarm, it could mean a new Kiev’s attempts to blow up the Minsk process and to solve the internal conflict by force. And it will be satisfied with any scenario and the defeat of the resistance of the LC and the DNI, and the power response of Russia, as it did in Georgia in 2008, when the aggressor threw back beyond South Ossetia”, – said Kosachev.
The MP said that the second option is even preferable, since the return of the regions where the number of victims since the beginning of ATO (“anti-terrorist operation”, the so-called military operation of Kiev in the Donbass), and now “operation United forces” in the thousands, including the elderly and children, will be a big problem for the “liberators”. “At least some evidence of “Russian aggression” it would be salutary for the Kiev regime, especially in anticipation of the presidential elections in Ukraine”, – said the head of the international Committee of the Federation Council.
The Senator noted that repression in the real world, “the official Kiev moved to reprisals in the virtual world”: after the detention of the SBU chief editor of “RIA Novosti Ukraine” Kirill Vyshinsky “pointedly absurd reasons” decided to block access to the sites of the MIA “Russia today” and “RIA Novosti Ukraine”.
“Undoubtedly, the Ukrainian authorities continue to “clean up” the information space from any dissent. Of course, this line they held all this time, with a rough attempt on the freedom of information demagogy about the “aggression,” – said Kosachev.
