MOSCOW, July 3. /TASS/. Russian senators stand ready to participate in discussions in the U.S. Congress to objectively convey the position of Moscow. This was stated on Tuesday by the Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs Konstantin Kosachev after a meeting with delegation of the Congress of the United States.
“We found evidence that a significant portion of our disagreement is not based on a real mismatch between positions and interests, and lack of understanding of the true intentions and motives behind the actions of each other, – said Russian Senator. We noted, with concern over some of the discussions in the us Congress in both houses when there is no deep enough understanding of the situation in Russia and abroad”. “We expressed our commitment to ensure that such discussions be sure to Express and convey to the American colleagues ‘more objective point of view, which, of course, has the Russian side”, – he added.
The talks Kosachev described as open, meaningful and constructive. “We made sure largely do not agree, we obviously do not find mutual understanding on many issues of modern development, but we agree that we need to resume dialogue in order to create a basis for better understanding between the two countries and two peoples,” – said the Russian parliamentarian.
According to him, in this regard, “both sides stressed the obvious importance” of the upcoming talks between the presidents of Russia and USA Vladimir Putin and Donald trump, as well as “the willingness of parliamentary means to facilitate the successful results of this meeting” to be held in Helsinki on 16 July.
Kosachev also noted that members of the congressional delegation during meetings with representatives of the Federation Council on Tuesday reaffirmed their readiness to resume inter-parliamentary dialogue.
“We, of course, was waiting for this delegation, we wanted to Express our readiness to resume inter-parliamentary dialogue, we were waiting for confirmation from the American side about the presence of the same readiness, and we have confirmation heard,” he said.
The head of Committee of the Federation Council thanked his interlocutors for taking the initiative to visit Russia. “And we agreed that this is only the beginning for the subsequent regular and systematic contacts”, – said Kosachev.
The delegation of American parliamentarians is on a visit to Russia from June 30 to July 5. It includes the Senator from Alabama Richard Shelby, Senator from Louisiana, John Kennedy, the Senator from North Dakota John Hoven, the Senator from South Dakota John Thune, Senator from Kansas, Jerry Moran, Senator from the state of Montana Steve Daines, and a member of the house of representatives from Texas Kay Granger.
