Russian foreign Ministry: statements on alternative Internet do not represent the position of Moscow


MOSCOW, July 3. /TASS/. The statements of the Director of the Department of new challenges and threats of the Russian foreign Ministry Ilya Rogachev on the creation of an “alternative Internet” are not the official position of the Ministry and represent the expert opinion as part of the ongoing professional debate on the subject. This explanation was given by TASS in dipvedomstva.

“The official Russian point of view formulated in a number of initiatives on cooperation in the field of international information security, fight against the use of cyberspace for criminal purposes, etc., – explained in the foreign Ministry. – Actively work with partners, aimed at achieving a broad consensus”.

At the end of June – early July Rogachev participated in new York in a series of events at the UN on the fight against terrorism. In an interview with TASS, he said that Russia’s policy is not aimed at isolation of the Internet.

“This can primarily lead the policy of our Western partners, the imposition of double standards, – the diplomat noted. If these double standards will continue to be spread, while the most unfavorable term, we can talk about the creation of a parallel Internet. Technical, financial, intellectual, and all other features available for this, but I don’t think someone would love to”. At the moment, according to him, this goal is not worth it.
