Russia has a very difficult experience combating terrorism, and better to do it abroad than to fight terrorism in the country, said Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.
MOSCOW, 3 Oct. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that the operation HQs of the Russian Federation in Syria aims to protect Russians from the threat of terrorism.
“We have a rather big defence spending, these costs are justified given the current situation of our country and the need to undertake the reformation of our armed forces. These items of expenditure will be sufficient to perform certain military tasks, how the task that is currently being implemented by the Armed forces of Russia in Syria,” — said Medvedev in an interview, a fragment of which was shown on Saturday on the channel “Russia 24”.
“We protect the Russian people from the threat of terrorism, because it is better to do it abroad than to fight terrorism within the country”, — said Medvedev, noting that Russia, “unfortunately, has a very heavy experience of the fight against terrorism”.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier asked the Federation Council for permission to use Russian armed forces abroad. The Federation Council approved this message. The defense Ministry announced that aircraft of the Russian VKS began conducting air operations with the targeted killings by terrorists from the “Islamic state” in Syria.
Russia intends to apply exclusively to aviation, acting at the request of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, leading the fight against terrorists “Islamic state”. International law allows the use of force in the territory of a foreign state or by a decision of the UN security Council or in self-defence or at the request of the authorities of that state.
