NEW YORK, 30 Sep. Dmitry Zlatarev. The meeting of presidents of Russia and USA Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama on the sidelines of a session of the UN General Assembly showed that the parties remain contradictions, but there are common attitudes, considers Vice-President of the American political “Eurasia center” Earl Rasmussen.

“Judging by the comments of both parties, the difference of opinion remains. But it seems that there is at least some agreement on the basis of which you can create common approaches,” he said.

According to him, “it looks like Moscow and Washington, at least, understand the need to make joint efforts” to resolve matters.

The expert expressed the “hope that the dialogue will continue, and will soon be made solid positive steps”.

“I’m glad that the two leaders met. Regardless of the outcome of discussions, this is a good first step, because without dialogue there can be issues and move forward,” added Rasmussen.

He stressed that “cooperation between Moscow and Washington is a prerequisite for ensuring international security and the peaceful resolution of existing conflicts”.
