Economic zone Menla in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous district, will bring together more than 240 different projects. Currently, preparatory works for the construction of the airport Menla.
MOSCOW, 19 Oct. China plans to invest about 200 billion yuan (31,4 billion US dollars) in the project of economic zone on the border with Laos, reports on Monday, the Xinhua news Agency.
According to the Committee on Affairs of development and reforms in Yunnan province, economic zone Menla (Mengla), which will be located in the Xishuangbanna-Dai Autonomous region, will bring together more than 240 different projects in such sectors as transport, education, energy, agriculture
The area of the zone will be 4.5 thousand square kilometers. The construction of the zone began in August with construction of the railway line Longquan-Mohan. Currently, preparatory works for the construction of the airport Menla. The commissioning of the railway line and the airport is expected to 2020.
As reported in early September, the Xinhua news Agency, the zone will also cover Boten city of the Lao province of Luang Namtha. Economic zone between the PRC and Laos should promote economic development and trade of the two countries, as well as investments. In addition, the area must help expedite the development of the border areas of China and Laos.
