Deputy foreign Minister: the U.S. at every opportunity, grasping at “cudgel of sanctions”

MOSCOW, October 28. USA at each convenient and inconvenient case of grasping at “cudgel of sanctions.” This was stated by Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov, speaking at the University BRICS summit.

“In practical actions of Washington the array of sanctions is of particular importance and plays an increasingly important role, the diplomat said. – Caricature to say that the U.S. at every opportunity and an awkward case, grab the cudgel of sanctions.”

According to him, in Washington came to the conclusion that this tool is “the least costly and maximum efficiency”. “To prove that sanctions do not work, it is very difficult, but very important, – said Ryabkov. If this is not done, the scheme will be fixed”.

The European Union and the United States introduced sanctions against entire sectors of the Russian economy in July 2014. Russia responded “mirror” and restricted the import of food products. At the end of June 2015, in response to extension of sanctions, Russia has extended food embargo until 5 August 2016.

Ryabkov said that a series of international lawsuits against Russia was initiated by Washington.

“We are at the beginning of the fight with a series of lawsuits against Russia and its institutions, largely inspired by the United States or through their legal machine,” the diplomat said.


According to Ryabkov, the participation of India and Pakistan to the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO) can help reduce the potential for conflict in these countries.

“Agreed that the joint participation of India and Pakistan in the SCO could become a factor in helping to reduce the conflict potential of these countries,” he said.

Speaking about Iran, the diplomat noted that the removal of the Islamic Republic of sanctions could open the way to this country in the SCO. “We believe that the completion in the nearest future everything connected with the removal of sanctions pressure against Iran, will pave the way for membership of Iran in the SCO,” – said Ryabkov.

Earlier, Russian foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that in the case of the lifting of sanctions with Iran, Russia will welcome its entry into the SCO.

The Shanghai cooperation organization is a regional international Union, which includes Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. On 10 July, the SCO was launched admission procedure in India and Pakistan.
