Medvedev: private business should be involved in the patenting of inventions

The question of patenting should not be a problem of the state, it is necessary to attract private business, believes Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.

MOSCOW, 28 Oct. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev believes that the issue of patenting is not the exclusive task of the state, private business must also do this.

“I briefly note that patenting is not only a state problem but also the goal of private business,” Medvedev said, speaking Wednesday at a plenary session of the forum “Open innovations”.

Medvedev noted that you can’t stop progress and technology will be actively developed.

“What to do in this situation? Do active innovation or provide (an opportunity) the economy just go with the flow, intervene in these processes to the state or to give all farmed out to private business? How to build a model of how to engage in the protection of these inventions, including patenting, which has been discussed here,” he said.
