The Ukrainian side expects a decrease in the price of natural gas in the first quarter of next year, said the head of “Naftogaz”.
KYIV, 4 Nov. Ukraine expects the price of Russian gas in the first quarter of next year is lower than the fixed price in the winter package that is valid till the end of this year and is 227 dollars per thousand cubic meters, said on air “the Fifth channel” the head of “Naftogaz of Ukraine” Andrey Kobelev.
KOBOLEV previously stated that Ukraine plans to buy gas from Gazprom until the end of the current year to the extent which would be necessary to continue the purchase in the first quarter of 2016 if “Gazprom” will offer an adequate price.
“The price until the end of this year is fixed at $ 227… Because we expect a reduction of the price of natural gas in the first quarter of next year, we hope that the Russian monopoly will offer us a price that will be competitive with gas supplies from the EU… to Me it’s hard to predict the market… we have certain expectations that I’m not ready to publicly announce… But we expect this price will be less,” — said Kobolyev.
In winter gas package, which Ukraine, Russia and the European Commission initialled on 25 September, agreed compulsory purchase “Naftogaz” from “Gazprom” gas credit on 500 million dollars attracted using the EC. “Gazprom” on October 29 reported that they had received from “Naftogaz” for another $ 64 million pre-payment for gas supplies. Thus, the total prepayment amounted to 518 million dollars, 18 million dollars exceeding agreed in the winter package amount.
In the fourth quarter of the price of Russian gas for Ukraine taking into account the discount is 227.36 USD per thousand cubic meters.
Earlier on Wednesday the head of Ministry of Ukraine Volodymyr demchyshyn has said that Ukraine buys gas from Europe in the price range of $ 220-230 per thousand cubic meters.
