The Ministry of energy of Turkey: Russia is one of the best partners in the country

Turkey’s energy Minister said the two countries ‘ cooperation in the sphere of supply of natural gas and expressed confidence that the NPP “Akkuyu” will be a model for all of Turkey.

ANKARA, 4 Nov. The Minister of energy and natural resources of Turkey Ali rıza Alaboyun named Russia as one of the best partners of his country.

“Russia is one of the best partners of Turkey. In particular, this applies to supplies of natural gas. We think the Russian and Turkish companies cooperated in the energy sphere and in other spheres”, — said Alaboyun on Wednesday during his visit to the inspection of the construction site of Akkuyu NPP the Russian project. Quoted by the Anadolu news Agency.

NPP “Akkuyu” will be a model for all of Turkey and will generate in the country a positive attitude towards the use of atomic energy, said the Minister. He expressed confidence that this plant will be one of the most reliable in the world.

“We rely on Russian technology and experience in this field. Our own energy is limited. The country largely depends on foreign supplies of oil and gas. The nuclear power plants operate around the clock, produce clean energy and are critical from the point of view of energy security,” added Alaboyun.

Commenting on speculative media publications about the project NPP “Akkuyu”, the Minister stressed that we should not trust unconfirmed by the Ministry of information.

The intergovernmental agreement of the Russian Federation and Turkey on cooperation in the sphere of construction and operation of nuclear power plant in Akkuyu district of Mersin in southern Turkey was signed in 2010. The project of the first Turkish NPP includes four VVER. The capacity of each NPP unit will be 1200 MW. The project cost is approximately $ 20 billion.

In December last year, the Ministry of environment and urban planning of Turkey approved the EIA report. The ceremony for laying the Foundation of marine structures of the Akkuyu NPP was held in April this year. Start of construction of the nuclear plant scheduled for the end of 2016.
