MOSCOW, November 12. The Council under the RF President on development of civil society and human rights (HRC) will conduct its own review of the human rights centre “memorial” after the Ministry of justice of the Russian Federation. This was stated by the Chairman of the HRC Mikhail Fedotov, the radio station “Echo of Moscow”.
As previously reported the newspaper “Kommersant”, after the inspection of the Ministry of justice the human rights center “memorial” was an official act, which allegedly claimed that members of the “Memorial” “undermine the foundations of the constitutional system of the Russian Federation, calling for the overthrow of the current government, the change of the political regime in the country.”
“We will conduct a study of the work of the human rights centre “memorial”, will issue the inspection report and see which of these documents would be more reasoned, accurate, clear and relevant requirements of legislation”, – said the head of the HRC. According to him, the members of the Council on human rights has examined the inspection report of the Ministry of justice. “He has put everyone in a slight shock. Such terrible charges of undermining the constitutional system”, – said Fedotov.
In the spring of 2013 the Prosecutor’s office ordered the human rights center “memorial” to register as NGOs – “foreign agents”. The organization unsuccessfully tried to appeal this decision in the courts. “Memorial” cannot be recognized as undesirable by the organization, because undesirable organization can only be foreign”, – said Fedotov.
According to him, public examination of “Memorial” will reveal whether the statement of the Ministry of justice an attempt to put pressure on human rights, “Memorial”.
According to the head of the HRC, the examination will take two weeks. The test results will be submitted to the Minister of justice Alexander Konovalov, and if necessary the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. The request to take into consideration the findings of the public examination will be sent to the state office of public Prosecutor.
