Matvienko: Russia considers the sanctions illegal, so they are not discussing

The speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko has noticed that the countries which had imposed sanctions to Russia, have put themselves in a difficult position.

MOSCOW, 16 Nov. Russia with anybody does not discuss the removal of sanctions, considers them to be illegal and unfounded, said the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.

At the end of July 2014, the EU and the U.S. announced sanctions against entire sectors of the Russian economy due to the deterioration of relations between Russia and the West on the background of the conflict in Ukraine.

“We don’t discuss with anyone the lifting of sanctions. We continue to believe that they are illegal, wrongful, unfounded. So to think about what to do with sanctions, should those countries that imposed them, not because they less suffer from their actions and understand that they have put themselves in a difficult position,” — said Matvienko in interview to the newspaper “Izvestia” published on Monday.

She stressed that sanctions against Russia were introduced with the purpose of its isolation, but without Russia it is difficult to solve any serious problem. “It concerns the destruction of chemical weapons in Syria and resolving the Iranian problem,” — said Matvienko.
