MOSCOW, 16 Nov. The export of Russian grain to Egypt by the end of 2015 will remain the same and will be about 4 million tons, said in an interview with trade representative of the Russian Federation in Egypt Fedor Lukashin.
“Between the two countries’ leaders have an understanding and agreement that Russia is able to deliver up to 5.5 million tons of grain annually. While we of this indicator according to the results of the last two years have not yet reached, we get somewhere between 3.5 and 4 million tons per year, and this year we expect a similar rate,” said Lukashin.
However, he stressed that for many years the grain was the main article of Russian export to Egypt and only in 2014 it has conceded the first position to the oil.
In late October, the head of the Russian grain Union Arkady Zlochevsky on the sidelines of the International grain trading conference in Sharm El-Sheikh reported that the share of Russian wheat in the Egyptian imports has been increasing recently and now stands at 65%, and in the future it may be increased to a historic low of 70%.
As noted Lukashin, the possibility of Egypt on the import of Russian grain at the moment is limited to existing in country infrastructure of grain storage, therefore “to increase imports Egypt fits prudently.”
“The volume of imported grain depends, including from the possibility of its processing. Egypt is officially considered that the service of grain storage insufficiently modernized and has sufficient space,” explained the trade representative.
