Lavrov will discuss with the foreign Minister of Lebanon the situation in Syria and the countering new threats


MOSCOW, November 18. The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov will hold on 18 November, the negotiations with the colleague from the Lebanese Gibran Basil, who at the invitation of the Russian Minister arrived in Moscow on a working visit.

As have informed in the Russian foreign Ministry, the foreign Ministers will discuss the subject “developments in the middle East and North Africa with emphasis on the situation in Syria, issues of counteraction against new challenges and threats, as well as the state of bilateral cooperation between Moscow and Beirut”.

“In the context of the discussion of the entire range of traditionally friendly Russian-Lebanese relations from our side, the focus will be on strengthening coordination in the international arena, maintaining an active political dialogue and further development of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation, cultural and humanitarian relations”, – informed in depodesta.

In Moscow welcomed “the dynamic nature of Russian-Lebanese political dialogue, including contacts with the authorities of Lebanon and the leading political forces of the country, mutual striving for further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields”.

“Russia has consistently supported the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Lebanon, non-interference in its internal Affairs, the preservation of interfaith and civil peace in the Republic of Lebanon, stressed in the Ministry. – We believe that all the issues of the national agenda should be decided by the Lebanese through dialogue and in accordance with the Constitution of the country.” The Russian side strongly condemns “any attempt to destabilize Lebanon”.

Visit the Lebanese Minister will last till November 19. As noted in the Russian foreign Ministry, we are working on the organization of the meeting Gibran Basil with the leadership of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Russian Orthodox Church /ROC/.
