Demchyshyn: Kiev resumes imports of electricity from Russia in an extreme case


In case of an insufficient capacity of own production Ukraine has the possibility to temporarily use the import electric power, said the Minister of energy and coal industry of Ukraine Volodymyr demchyshyn.

KYIV, 18 Nov. Ukraine will resume imports of electricity from Russia in case of emergency, said on Wednesday the Minister of energy and coal industry of Ukraine Volodymyr demchyshyn.

“Imports have been suspended for now, we do not book capacity in Russia. We use the import as a last resort, to the maximum loading capacity own” — quoted Demchishin press service of the Ministry of energy of Ukraine.

According to the Minister, in case of an insufficient capacity of own production Ukraine has the possibility to temporarily use the import electrical energy.

On Friday, Ukraine completely stopped the import of electricity from Russia in connection with the repairs completed at Rovno NPP, previously reported in the press service of “Ukrenergo”. Previously demchyshyn said that Ukraine imports electricity due to the shortage of capacity that arose because of temporary outage of one unit at the Rovno NPP in connection with completion of the line Rivne-Kyiv.
