Gazprom stops gas deliveries to Ukraine pending the receipt of new payments
“Over the past year and a half, we have shown that we can provide uninterrupted transit of Russian gas regardless of whether it comes to Ukraine or not,” said the head of “Naftogaz” Andrey Kobelev.
On Wednesday the head of “Gazprom” Alexey Miller has informed that the company stops gas supplies to “Naftogaz of Ukraine” to the new charges.
“Today as of 10 a.m. “Naftogaz of Ukraine” have chosen a prepaid volumes of Russian gas. New pre-payment has not been received. Bids for the supply of gas from “Naftogaz of Ukraine” no. Thus, deliveries continue until the proceeds from the Ukrainian company of new payments. At the same time already now, before the onset of severe cold weather, Ukraine began active selection of gas from underground storage facilities, which were insufficiently filled. Refusal to purchase Russian gas poses serious risks to reliable gas transit to Europe through Ukraine and for gas supply to Ukrainian consumers during the coming winter”, – he said.

Gas supplies to Ukraine, which was interrupted in the third quarter of 2015 at the initiative of the Ukrainian side, were resumed on October 12 after receipt of payment in the amount of $234 million of the promised $500 million in October.
As previously reported, on 25 September in Brussels, the EU-Ukraine-Russia agreed to supply Ukraine 2 billion cubic meters of Russian gas. Deliveries were to commence from 1 October. “Naftogaz of Ukraine” noted that the funds for gas for the account of “Gazprom” will be transferred gradually, in small tranches.
The price of Russian gas for Ukraine in the fourth quarter of 2015 is about $230 per 1 thousand cubic meters with the discount.
