Tkachev: Russia will strengthen control over the supply of agricultural products from Turkey

MOSCOW, 26 Nov. The government has requested the Rosselkhoznadzor to strengthen control over the supply of agricultural products from Turkey, and arrange additional checks at the border of Russia and on the production in Turkey, said the head of the Ministry of agriculture of the Russian Federation Alexander Tkachev.

“Given the repeated violations of Turkish producers of Russian legislation, the Russian government requested the Rosselkhoznadzor to put on the enhanced control of the supply of agricultural products and food from Turkey, and arrange additional checks at the border and in places of production directly in the Turkish Republic”, — said Tkachev, as quoted by the press service of the Ministry of agriculture.

The Minister pointed out that in recent years agricultural Department receives requests of customers and industry associations on the issue of safety of agricultural products and foodstuffs exported to Russia from Turkey.

“The Ministry of agriculture has analyzed the situation and I have informed the Russian government that, unfortunately, approximately 15% of Turkey’s agricultural production does not correspond to Russian standards”, — said the head of the Ministry. According to him, since the beginning of 2015 there have been registered about 40 cases of detection of residues of banned and harmful substances in Turkish animal products.

“Currently the regime of enhanced laboratory control in respect of 2 Turkish enterprises, 6 enterprises have entered the mode time limit. In fruits and vegetables also found a significant excess of maximum permissible levels of content of pesticides, nitrates and nitrites,” — said Tkachev.
