Diamond mining in the Arkhangelsk region will reach 7 million carats by 2018, and its share of diamond production in the Russian Federation after 2020 may reach 20%, reported to journalists by the Governor of the region Igor Orlov in the framework of the V international forum “Arctic: present and future”.

“According to estimates, which we have made together with experts in the diamond industry, 20% of the Russian diamonds will be mined in Arkhangelsk region”, — he said.
According to him, on the territory of Arkhangelsk region is Europe’s only diamond-bearing province. “The government of the region pays great attention to the formation of the diamond-mining sector of Pomerania,” he said.
Orlov noted that diamond mining in the region are “arhangelskgeoldobycha” (a subsidiary enterprise of LUKOIL) and Severalmaz (subsidiary of ALROSA) deposits name of the Fungus and named after Lomonosov.
According to him, if to 2014 the share of Arkhangelsk region in the diamond production in Russia amounted to 3%, by the end of 2014, up by 7% this year, according to estimates, could reach 13%. Diamond mining in the coming years will increase and will reach 7 million carats by 2018.
“We are now (produced) by 13%. For the extraction we are now at the stage of project preparation at the beginning of opening of the Deposit “Komsomolsk” company ALROSA. And then we will reach the planned 20% in 2020-2021, with the investment and the commencement of commercial production, output, production capacity,” — said the head of the region.
