Matvienko: Turkmenistan is interested in a strategic partnership with Russia


Thanks to the efforts of the leaders of Russia and Turkmenistan bilateral relations are developing, are strategic, the nature trust, said the Federation Council speaker Valentina Matvienko.

ASHGABAT, 11 Dec. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed support for the strategic partnership with Russia, said the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko to journalists on Friday following the meeting.

“We had a very friendly, but not complimentary conversation, talked about what’s good and what’s done where not doing a good job our team and where we need to connect more actively to the Parliament”, — said Matvienko.

According to her, the head of the Republic stressed that the Russian-Turkmen relations should have good prospects, and actively expand, “and that he strongly supported and will support the strategic partnership with Russia”.

During the visit of the Russian delegation to Ashgabat signed an agreement on inter-parliamentary cooperation. Matviyenko said that the signing of the agreement indicates that both sides are interested in development of relations. She emphasized that cooperation between our countries should be built based on the long history, friendship and understanding between our peoples.

She also emphasized that thanks to the efforts of the leaders of Russia and Turkmenistan bilateral relations are developing, are strategic, confidential character. “The parliaments will contribute to the expansion of this cooperation”, — said the Senator.

The Russian Senator also said that celebrated on December 12, the 20th anniversary of neutrality of Turkmenistan played a very important role in ensuring security, stability in Central Asia.

The Chairman of the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan, Akja Nurberdyeva, in turn, stressed that the meeting with the head of the Federation Council of Russia has finished a very important document, which “will give a new impetus to development of relations between our parliaments”.

In accordance with the agreement, the parties agreed to develop inter-parliamentary cooperation, exchange information on their activities, regular exchange of parliamentary delegations at various levels.
