Putin denied the information that Russia has invested $3.5 billion in a nuclear power plant “Akkuyu” in Turkey


MOSCOW, December 17. The Russian side did not invest 3.5 billion dollars in a nuclear power plant “Akkuyu” in Turkey, the negotiations with the Turkish side on this project continues. This was stated by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin during a big press conference.

Previously Deputy Director General of the company “Akkuyu Nuclear” Oleg Titov reported that the implementation of the project NPP “Akkuyu” in Turkey continues, the construction is not stopped. In turn, the Reuters Agency with reference to sources in the Ministry of energy of Turkey said that Russia halted work on the construction of Turkish NPP “Akkuyu”. According to the Agency, Ankara has already begun the search for potential new contractors for this project.
The intergovernmental agreement, signed in 2010, includes construction on the southern coast of Turkey in Mersin province NPP with four units (VVER-1200) total capacity of 4800 MW. The operating life of 60 years, and the amount of electricity generated will cover 17% of domestic electricity demand on the basis of the level of current consumption.

At present the project of the first Turkish nuclear power station belongs to state Corporation “Rosatom”. Shareholders of the project company are JSC “Concern Rosenergoatom”, (92,85%), JSC “inter RAO UES” (3,47%), JSC Atomstroyexport (3,47%) and JSC Atomenergoremont and JSC “Atomtechenergo” (0.1%). The project cost is estimated in 22 billion dollars. In the future it is planned to involve as shareholders of the NPP and Turkish companies.
