MOSCOW, December 23. A number of participants of the International support group Syria (MGPS) from among the countries in the middle East trying to interpret the crisis as a conflict between Sunnis and Shiites, Russia believes that this approach is a dangerous trend. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on the TV channel “Rain”, refuting the assumption of the other party that the conflict in Syria Moscow is opposed only to the extremists among the Sunnis.

“We have always said that this is a dangerous trend – to bring the case to the inter-religious conflict,’ she said. – And that such efforts have is obvious. There are players who try the whole conflict to turn and make it interfaith”.
According to Zakharova, the attempt is taking “a number of regional countries,” to call which she did not. “I can say that even in the framework of the Vienna group, which is now called the International support group Syria, we hear a hard debate, including on this issue. We hear language about the ability to interpret what is happening as interreligious conflict,” added she.
“Now “enemy number one” is IG (grouping “Islamic state”, banned in Russia), “Dzhabhat EN-Nusra” and all minor and major subdivisions, who practice this terrorist logic, the ideology and methods of operation, – said official representative of Russian foreign Ministry. – The main task is the unification of all opportunities, including on earth, to combat the fact that it is a threat of an entirely new type”.
About grouping “dzhebhat EN-Nusra” and “Islamic state”
The radical Islamist group “dzhebhat EN-Nusra” (“Front of victory”), associated with a terrorist network “al-Qaeda” was created in 2011 on the territory of Syria. Our key objectives “dzhebhat EN-Nusra” named the overthrow of the regime of Bashar al-Assad with the subsequent establishment of an Islamic Emirate in Syria. On December 29, the Supreme court recognized “dzhebhat EN-Nusra” a terrorist organization and banned its activities in Russia.
“Islamic state” (ISIS) – an Islamist terrorist organization operating inside Iraq and Syria.
Established on 15 October 2006 by the merger of 11 radical Sunni groups. The core group forming the militants, who fought with American troops during their stay in Iraq and with the forces of the government of Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
The IG recognized as a terrorist organization in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Turkey, Egypt, UAE, India, Indonesia, and Russia (29 December 2014).
