The possibility of restoring relations with the Russian authorities yet, because Ukraine “cannot trust Russia as a country that abides by international law”, said the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin.
KYIV, 25 Dec. The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin believes that in the short term, the restoration of relations between Kiev and Moscow on the basis of trust is impossible.
“I do not see in prospect the possibility of restoring relations with Russia on the basis of trust,” said Klimkin in an interview to Ukrainian magazine “Tyzhden”.
He claims that the trust of the Russian Federation “as a country that abides by international law, not now”.
“The trust of political or any other – it does not exist today and it will not occur in the foreseeable future. Therefore, the relationship with Russia I see as some critical dialogue. Critical communication that we need because we are at the Normandy process, tripartite (Minsk – ed.) consultations on energy issues”, — said the Minister.
He noted that discussions between the representatives of Ukraine and Russia takes place only with the involvement of third parties, and one on one side.
After the coup d’état in Ukraine and the start of the military operation by Ukrainian forces in the Donbass relations between Kyiv and Moscow deteriorated significantly. Kiev accuses Moscow of supporting militias Donbass. Russia denies it and calls such accusations unacceptable. Moscow repeatedly stated that it is not a party to domestic conflict and not privy to the events in the South-East, is interested in Ukraine overcame political and economic crisis.
