In the moment between Syria and Russia signed agreements on construction of power plants within five years, as well as a number of contracts for materials and equipment for cooperation in maintenance of stations.
DAMASCUS, 29 Dec. Syria is currently actively cooperating with Russian companies in the field of construction of power plants, the country also cooperates with some organizations for the procurement of power equipment, said in an interview with Sputnik, the Minister of electricity of Syria Imad Khamis.
“We hope that the economic cooperation (with Russia – ed.), especially in the field of electricity, will rise to the level of political cooperation between the two friendly countries. We are working in this direction. In the past two years, the company actively cooperated with the Ministry of energy of the Russian Federation, both at the official level and at the level of the private sector in Russia,” said Khamis.
“We have signed agreements for the construction of new power plants within five years and agreement on construction of small stations, as well as a number of contracts for materials and equipment for cooperation with our friends and experts in the field of technical maintenance stations, these agreements are currently in place,” added the Minister.
He stressed that relations between Syria and Russia have a long history, played an important role and are special in all areas. In the area of electricity, the Minister noted that cooperation between the two States became even stronger after the construction of the dam, “al-Furat” in Syria, built in 70-ies of the last century by the Soviet companies. The relations in this sphere has also strengthened after the construction of the thermal power plant “tishrin” by Soviet specialists in the 80-ies. “Tishrin” is one of the best stations that operate in Syria at the present time, said Khamis.
