Yatsenyuk said that Ukraine currently provided coal for TPP


In connection with the conflict in the South-East of the country, Ukraine lost access to most of the coal mines. Kiev is forced to import coal from other countries.

KIEV, 10 Jan. Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that the country is provided by coal, so power outages because of the lack of coal stations TPP is not expected.

Ukraine because of the conflict in the Donbass lost the majority of coal mines. On uncontrollable Kiev territories were the most profitable mines, and companies, remaining under the control of the authorities of Ukraine, unprofitable produce gas coals. Kiev is forced to import coal from South Africa, USA, and Russia.

“At this stage we have sufficient coal reserves, and it all depends on how will be made the supply of coal to Ukrainian station. The government has provided funding for the purchase of coal and calculations in the energy market. Therefore, the power outage can occur only in those settlements where electric line is damaged due to weather conditions”, — said Yatsenyuk on Sunday in the broadcast of “10 minutes with Prime Minister”.

Earlier it was reported that the coal in the amount of 168 thousand tons arrived in the port of “southern” vessel Bulk China from South Africa on 5 December 2015, and December 8 was completed unloading of the vessel. The arrival of the next batch of coal in the amount of 85 thousand tons is expected in late January 2016. Coal is supplied in accordance with the bilateral contract for the supply of anthracite coal from South Africa, concluded between PJSC “Centrenergo” and the international trader Mercuria Energy Trading SA (Switzerland) in late September 2015.

In early December the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that he appealed to President Petro Poroshenko with a request at the next meeting of the Council of national security and defence to consider the issue of energy security of Ukraine. According to him, Kyiv will be able to pass the current winter without gas purchases from Russia, however, the situation with the purchase of coal is critical. Yatsenyuk also said that for the autumn-winter period it is necessary to accumulate a positive outcome of 7 million tons of coal, prices of 11 million tons.
