MFA of Russia: Lavrov and Kerry agreed to meet in the near future


MOSCOW/WASHINGTON, January 11. The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry in a telephone conversation confirmed support for the organization of inter-Syrian negotiations.

“In discussions with Syria, the parties reaffirmed support for the efforts of the special envoy of the UN Secretary-General Staffan de Mistura for the organization of negotiations between representatives of the Syrian government and a representative delegation of the opposition to achieve a political settlement”, – informed the Russian foreign Ministry following the meeting, held at the initiative of Kerry.

The Ministers held an “exchange of views on other topical international issues, including the implementation of “Complex measures” to resolve the crisis in Ukraine and strained relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the conflict in Yemen, the situation on the Korean Peninsula after the nuclear test in North Korea”. “Also addressed some of the issues on the bilateral agenda”, – said in depodesta.

Lavrov and Kerry “agreed to continue the dialogue during a personal meeting in the near future.”

Earlier the chief a press-services of US state Department John Kirby also said that the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry intends to “seek opportunities” to be held in the near future a new meeting.

According to him, Lavrov and Kerry held Monday a telephone conversation in which he discussed a “range of issues, including the political process in Syria,” fighting is prohibited in the Russian Federation terrorist group “Islamic state”, the “middle East regional issues, the Ukraine, the recent nuclear test in North Korea, and U.S.-Russian relations”.

Lavrov and Kerry “agreed to maintain close contact and seek the possibility to hold a meeting in coming days”, said the representative of the foreign Department of the USA.
